Small Business Showcase:  A Little Peace Of Joy

I thought I would take some time to show off some great small businesses.

A great quote I recently saw said "When you buy from a small business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home.  You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom put food on the table, a dad pay a mortgage or a student pay for college."  ~Author Unknown

With that said let's meet Courtney, the owner of A Little Peace of Joy, a small online boutique who just celebrated one year in business on September 1st!

Owner Courtney Boye and her husband, Nate Boye.

What inspired you to start A Little Peace of Joy?
Honestly, I have always dreamed about opening up a boutique or shop of my own one day (I think most woman do!). A couple years ago when I was starting my MBA, I saw a video on Facebook of one of my friends making a scarf. I instantly thought, I could do that! Even though it took me an hour to make my first handmade scarf, I was so pleased with myself. I have never really had a creative bone in my body, unlike my mother and sister, so it was very exciting for me! My parents were actually the ones who persuaded me to make them for other people and maybe sell a few here or there! That is how A Little Peace of Joy was created!

How would you describe your business in 3 adjectives?
Affordable, Trendy, and Customer Friendly

How would you describe your personal style?
Comfy and affordable! I am definitely not one of those girls who are setting trends for their friends around them to start. I love when I can put an outfit on and know that I did not spend a fortune on it! My husband actually laughs at me when we go shopping because he knows when an item is too expensive for me. Example: I will walk up to the item that I think it totally cute and even say out load that it is totally for me, look at the expensive price tag, and then walk away without saying anything or expressing facial emotions. Haha love it!

How/Why did you start your Boutique?
I have always dreamed about opening up a boutique or shop of my own one day (I think most woman do!). When I first started the MBA program a couple years ago, I saw a video on Facebook of one of my friends making a scarf. After I got married and moved to Houston, I decided this was the time in my life and in the shop to introduce women's clothing, accessories, jewelry, and more! I officially opened up the new and improved online boutique on September 1st of 2014!

Do you give back to the community in anyway, if so to who and how?
When it comes to the community and giving back, I love participating in auctions! I have donated item/s to about 5 auctions (online/local) since I opened up in September 2014. A few of the auctions were for Go Shout Love, which is an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for children with suffering illnesses! They feature a new child/family every month and have an auction at the end of the month! The local auctions included, Walton Ferry Spring Fling in Hendersonville, TN to raise money for my sister's school, and the CARE Auction at Celina High School in Celina, TX to raise money for senior scholarships! As for myself, I have volunteered and completed internships with many nonprofit organizations, from Alzheimer's Arkansas to Alzheimer's Association to Komen. I would love to actually work for a known nonprofit one day plus do the boutique on the side if I can!
